Dear askbrowning,

Do you just make up all these questions or are real people actually writing to you?

Sincerely,

askbrowning

Well askbrowning, I am actually just "making them up" as you call it. But I'm not fooled by your spin words "making it up." Wasn't E.T. just "made up?" But that didn't stop me from crying real tears every time that cute little alien muttered the words, "E.T. go home." And "green means go, red means stop" is really just some made up idea? But the organization of our traffic depends on it! And what has come to be known as "Global Warming" is really just "made up," but it gives Al Gore a job and keeps the auto industry alive by guilting people into buying overpriced hybrids.

My point is that just because something is "made up," that doesn't mean that it doesn't have real value. Like when that one guy made up that whole book (A Million Little Pieces) and then told Oprah that it was all true. Sure Oprah had him back on the show to yell at him, but that's missing the point. He got to be on Oprah's show TWICE and he made some serious coin off that book... just because he "made something up." So let that be a lesson to you, when we made things up everyone wins. Except Oprah... she gets pissed.

Sincerely,

askbrowning

Editor's note: You actually can email askbrowning "real" questions that he will respond to in his column at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

About "askbrowning"

Along with a discussion of wonder comes questions. Questions about the meaning of life, questions about the origins of life, questions about why all of Nickelback's songs sound exactly the same.

Of course there are times when we must allow mystery to be mysterious, but at other times that is not enough. There are those of us who must ask the questions that burn in our guts like a fire that is really, really, really hot; so hot that it's not even orange, but is a blue-colored flame fire. But where in this world shall we turn when our guts burn with these questions? Who among us can we ask these questions of? When there is no one else to ask... ASKBROWNING.

That is why we at rednow have created the askbrowning section. If you have a question that perplexes, please hesitate no longer; send your question to askbrowning [at] rednow [dot] com.
