The Normality of Life Hot

Music Video

Title Remind Me
Artist Royksopp
Director H5
Year Released 2002

The opening scene of Stranger Than Fiction follows Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) through the monotony of his daily routine as an IRS employee. Each day is both calculated and methodical. It is absurd, yet normal.

Although most would never claim to be anything close to a "Harold Crick", the predictability of life is no stranger to our own experience.

Question. Why do we do what we do?

What begets our actions? It is interesting question to think about.  It has something do with our culture. It has something do with who we are. It seems to be based on something that is based on something else that is a reaction to something that once was... Sooner or later, it just "is".  Or better yet, we just "do".

Röyksopp is an experimental/electronic band from Norway made up of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge. They gained public attention after the release of their debut album Melody A.M. (2001) - mostly due to their creative and artful music videos that accompanied the album. "Remind Me" is the first single release of the duo. Many of their songs have frequented the advertising world - most notably this song's ("Remind Me") placement in one of the oh-so-clever Geico caveman ads (Watch here.)

Side bar: Remember Jr. High science? The sign above the "I just squirted some dangerous chemical in my eye" sink?

Well, Röyksopp and the folks at H5 (produced/directed) thrusted these familar "infographics" into a whole new medium. These visuals are not only well done, they seem to poignantly deal with our previous question.

Maybe a few new questions arise. Maybe it isn't not so much about "me"? And yet maybe "me" is what we know best?
