“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.”  - Albert Einsten

Short Title: How We Met
Year Released: 2007

This short (and sweet) little piece, titled "How We Met," is a testament to everyday creativity. Shot and uploaded entirely with a Samsung G800 cell phone/PDA/digital camera, the production equipment used to make this piece is accessible to most anyone (at least anyone who is able to be reading this post right now), and that's the brilliance of it.

With more and more mega-budget films coming out that attempt to woo the viewer with effects and production that few are capable of, the creators of this piece have taken a very different route. Here the viewer is instead woo by the very fact that this is something that he or she has the capacity to create. What sets this piece apart from the mega-budget films is that as the viewer I am not separated by my financial capital, which I may not have that much control over, but rather by my creative capital, which I am more readily able to control.

Facebook!

In many ways I am just as amazed by this piece as I am by some mega-budget films, but for very different reasons. No longer can I sit at home and scoff at the (lack of) creativity of those people making mega-budget films, saying "if I had that kind of money and that equipment I could make something like that too." This piece seems to be challenging me to get off my butt and put my time and creativity where my mouth is by showing me that brilliant creativity is not bound by budgets, but rather only by creativity itself. So make something... today... put some time into it. Think outside of just what you've seen before... don't think what you would need to create something, think of what you have and make, make, make. There is something deeply human about creating. Try it.
