Questions are a fascinating reality of life. On one hand, questions exist for the purpose of obtaining knowledge at some level (we want to know). On the other hand, questions exist as some sort of navigational guide to our experience (they shape what we do or do not interact with).

As questions are an unescapable reality of life (and a signficant basis of this site), they tend to reveal themselves through people, artists and their art (another signficant basis of this site).

So, question: What does humanity want more than anything else in the world?"

We have entertained some form of this question from time to time (See "Like You Never Have Known"). The question, or the answers, are obviously debatable. A handful of options or "forms of options" could be presented.

However this exercise might play itself out, it is likely to assume that "love" (in some capacity) would at the very least be on the table. And, if the topic was pushed further, it is likely that "grace" would emerge as a most desired experience. For we are creatures that long to experience grace.

It is interesting to realize that the moment we accept "grace" as a desired reality we also adhere to the "messiness" of life (in some form). The entire idea of grace is to be loved and/or experience love in the midst of what is seemingly unlovable. So, in theory, grace does not make a whole lot of logical sense.

It is an interesting question to ponder. Would grace be grace without the mess?

Is the "mess" necessary? Strangely beautiful? Or, could it be possible that grace can exist outside of the mess?

So, what does all of this have to do with an Iron and Wine music video? Well, we'll leave those thoughts to you... however, I would encourage you to watch closely throughout the first pan.

The name of the video is "Nake as We Came" by Iron and Wine. Interestingly enought, Sam Beam (who is Iron and Wine) directed this video himself.

I believe that messiness is something we cannot remove from our lives. We can attempt to ignore or look past it, yet the fact remains that for the most part, we are not in control. This does not necessarily refer to sin, I think it is more so when things around us are a little crazy and have affect us internally. Addressing your question Bob, I don't know what grace would be without messiness. When times are the most chaotic, I feel myself reaching and clinging to God - when his Grace is really on display in life. These experiences are the ones that draw me into a deeper connection with Him - I think Grace is perfectly designed for that purpose.
