Title: World On Fire
Artist: Sarah McLachlan
Director: Sophie Muller
Year Released: Jan 11, 2005
Recently I found out that my wife and I had a substantial amount of our retirement savings invested in a company that was indirectly funding the genocide in Darfur. It appears that for a couple years now our future comfort was being insured by the oppression and killing of thousands of African men, woman and children. As I sat at my dinning room table with my own one year old son on my lap, I wept.

Recently I found out that my wife and I had a substantial amount of our retirement savings invested in a company that was indirectly funding the genocide in Darfur. It appears that for a couple years now our future comfort was being insured by the oppression and killing of thousands of African men, woman and children. As I sat at my dinning room table with my one year old son on my lap, I wept.

In January of 2007 I was able to see the film The Devil Came On Horse Back at the Sundance Film Festival. It moved me to fight to see this senseless massacre cease in any way possible. [We have sense divested our funds from that company.]

There are things we are doing everyday, whether we know it or not, that cause the oppression of others. Sarah McLachlan’s video for World On Fire is a great example of what it looks like to make decisions with a conscience. It is a beautiful song matched with a beautiful action.

What about you? Do the things you buy, places you go, websites you visit, increase the oppression and injustice in this world or fight against it?
