the layer of insulation

Thanks Matt - I think Jay Z is getting at something that Shaine Claiborne really develops in his book, when he talks about charities often create a layer of insulation, or separation between the haves, and the have-nots. In essence, what happens is that as we give to charities and they filter the money to people who need it, and they are careful to leave us in our own separate worlds, so that we never encounter each other. We don't walk away changed, or transformed - just feeling a little better.
