Jena 6 update

For those of you who have perhaps read this post and are interested in the fate of the Jena 6 but don't follow daily news reports, there has been an update in the case. The attempted murder charges have been reduced for three of the group, (with a 4th facing charges as a juvenile). One has been convicted on the reduced aggravated assault charges and two face the same charge. This charge carries a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison, but is significantly less harsh than the sentencing possibilities of an attempted murder charge.

News reports indicate that there was significant pressure on prosecutors from human rights groups to reduce the charges. Action matters. - steve sherwood

Thanks for raising an important issue, David. While much has changed in 40 years in the U.S., much has not. I agree that racial inequity is still all around, just more subtle than in the past.

I'd be really interested to know what readers have experienced or think in this area. - steve sherwood
