Most of them are simply sitting somewhere, maybe "watching" or "waiting"... some of them are "building towers", others "wearing masks" and "hiding".. still others porring gasoline over cars, "Destroying".. but somehow the sound of his music gathered them. In some crazy we the song of his heart brought them together. And even then as they make there final charge they drop their masks, and even their drum. Because it wasn't about the music, it was about what inspired the music in him. I am truly an agent interpreting this text anew with each meeting. The brilliant combination of musical tropes and framing somewhat aside, what is so compelling to me is that no matter where I am when I meet this text I find myself asking, "What if?" from beginning to end. "What if that was a real drum? What if I followed the drummer? What if he was leading me where I've always wanted to go? What if I adventured with all these other people? What if I have real strength? What if the precipice is just the beginning? What if the greater risk is not jumping? What if all that I've longed for was actually reality and all I had to do was step into it, follow the drum?" For me this film is the audio/visual representation of C.S. Lewis' "the thing [I] yearned for night and day, from childhood to old age ... and [I've] never had it."
