sufjan, the roma journeys, and you tube does bright eyesPosted by David Swanson in photography, music video, music |
Our sound and image tour starts with some Sufjan. Here's a nice little video of everyone's favorite troubardour on a blustery rooftop in Cincinnati at the recent Music Now festival covering the Innocence Mission's Lakes of Canada.
And since Wednesday is Independence Day you should probably take a look at this not-so-quality video of Sufjan's version of the Star Spangled Banner from last summer's Sasquatch Festival. The lyrics have been tweaked a bit. But you expected that, didn't you?
One last bit of Sufjan-love before our tour moves on. Here's In The Words of the Governor from this month's version of The Believer. Who knew the mild-mannered Mr. Stevens could rock like that? And the flag marked with blood, with the blood of our hands
And our hands marked with death, with the blood of a man
And a man on the cross, and the cross on our hearts
Has it done nothing more, than to drive us apart?
How much do you know about the Romani people? I don't know much, but Joakim Eskildsen's beautiful new exhibit , The Roma Journeys , has me interested.
The project took the photographer to seven countries over seven years. The end result is both compelling and intimate.
Our final stop on this random tour of image and sound is a compilation of 30 different people covering Bright Eye's First Day of My Life. Be forewarned, some of this is really bad. But for some reason, when each of these amateur versions is pulled together I find the final result downright touching.
Hope you enjoyed the tour.
All for now.
