“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.”  - Albert Einsten

girlinthecafe.jpgi am in the last day of a leadership summit that willow creek church puts on each year. this is my first time being a part of the summit. i won't turn this into a plug for the conference, but i will pass on a few nuggets i am taking away from this summit that have made it well worth the time & money.

hearing marcus buckingham talk about the fact that only 12% of americans say they spend most of their time working out of their strengths really got me thinking about my own life and what i am doing with it. are the things that give me deep joy, are the things that i was created to do...are they the things i am spending my time doing?

or, am i just living a life i am capable of living?

am i a spoon that is being used to dig a hole instead of feeding people?

along with a ton of great questions bouncing around in my head, i also got the chance to hear from richard curtis. if that name doesn't mean much to you [it didn't to me,] the things he has written or been a part of will: Mr. Bean, 4 Weddings & A Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually, Bridget Jones Diary, Comic Relief, MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY, Live 8, Idol Gives Back....to name a few.

i bring him up here for two reasons - i dig this guy's work [yes, i do enjoy a good romantic comedy] and never realized it was all coming from the same person. and, to encourage you to seek out a film that he wrote for the leaders of the G8 just before their last meeting: The Girl In The Cafe .

Curtis is on his own spiritual journey, seeking to 'put the pieces of faith together,' and as he searches, he is making great films that display the beauty and truth of the Love that he is finding.

one other thing some of you may be interested in...i saw a preview for a film here yesterday that caught my attention:

bellathemovie.com

it looks like it could be a great flick - keep an eye out.
